Deadly shooting in Salinas Friday night

SALINAS, Calif. (KION)

One person was killed in a shooting Friday night in Salinas, according to police.

Officers responded at approximately 5:28 p.m. and found two victims at a homeless camp near the 800 block of East Laurel Drive. The camp was in a wooded area near the bicycle path east of the County Yard facility, according to a SPD news release.

A 28-year-old man died at the scene. The other victim, a 53-year-old man, was transported to the hospital and is expected to survive.

No arrests have been reported. Police say the suspect is described only as a Hispanic male "last seen running eastbound." Other people are believed to have left the scene of the shooting.

Police are investigating the shooting as a homicide.
