Salinas police looking for person suspected of shooting at occupied vehicle

SALINAS, Calif. (KION) Salinas police are investigating an incident involving shooting at an occupied vehicle.

At around 4:50 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation that detected several rounds in the 0-100 block of W. Lake Street.

Witnesses told police that a black, early 2000s Mercedes with paper plates stopped in the 100 block of Martella Street. They said the front passenger, described as a black man, got out of the vehicle and fired several rounds at another vehicle as it drove north on Martella.

After shooting at the vehicle, witnesses said the suspect got back in the vehicle, which sped north on Martella.

Officers said they found several bullet casings, but did not find any victims.
