Rio Del Mar Elementary closed after positive coronavirus test from person at school

Wednesday afternoon, Rio Del Mar officials received notice that a person at the Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19.

According to officials, The Santa Cruz County Public Health Department confirmed a person at Rio Del Mar Elementary has been placed on quarantine because of testing positive for COVID-19. No word on who that person was, other than it is an adult.

They are recommending school dismissal for 14 days after the date of
last exposure. The individual has not been on site since Friday, February 28, 2020. After consideration and in light of the new information, effective immediately, the District will dismiss Rio del Mar Elementary School until Monday, March 16, 2020.

To date, no other individual has tested positive for COVID-19. At this time,
they ask Rio del Mar parents to make arrangements for their student(s) for Thursday, March 12 and Friday, March 13 as classes will be canceled and any student-related activities will also be canceled.
