MONTEREY, Calif. (KION) Monterey police said they are investigating an incident involving a child being offered a ride to school by a stranger near Bay View Academy as a suspicious circumstance. It is not being investigated as a criminal act.

Just after 7:30 Thursday morning, a child was offered a ride to school by a stranger. The child told police that they were walking a bicycle up a hill about a block from school when a black car pulled up.

The car was driven by a white woman in her 40s with blond hair who identified herself as a parent. The child said she asked if they needed a ride to school, and when the child said no, the woman drove away.

Bay View Charter School and the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District issued a community alert out of an abundance of caution.

Anyone who has information or knows the identity of the woman is asked to call Lieutenant Andrew 831-646-3822.
