MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION) The Monterey County Sheriff's Office tells KION it is investigating a threat against the North Monterey County Unified School District.

The Sheriff's Office was notified about the threat made via social media Tuesday morning. Craig Chavez, the district's Assistant Superintendent, told KION the threat was non-specific, but was received at North Monterey County Middle School. He was not able to give any details about the content of the threat.

Chavez said the district has followed security measures by notifying law enforcement and scanning grounds and facilities. He said the district is working to keep parents up-to-date with what is happening and keep students safe.

Officials are investigating, and the Sheriff's Office said it has identified and interviewed 15 people who had knowledge of the threat.

Law enforcement said it does not appear to be credible right now, but four deputies were on campus.
