Inmate dies at Monterey County Jail Wednesday

SALINAS, Calif. (KION) The Monterey County Sheriff's Office confirms that an inmate at the jail died Wednesday evening.

He is identified as 34-year-old Gary Boyd.

The Sheriff's Office said Boyd had been in custody for about two hours, and when deputies checked on him. They said he was in medical distress, so he was taken to Natividad, where he was pronounced dead at around 6 p.m.

The Sheriff's Office Said an investigation is underway, but could not release any more information. His autopsy was performed Friday.
