MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION) Monterey County has extended the current ambulance contract with American Medical Response (AMR) for two years with amendments.

The Monterey County Board of Supervisors approved the amendments to the current agreement at a meeting Tuesday.

Under the approved agreement, Basic Life Support inter-facility transports are allowed both inside and outside the county if they are medically necessary, which the county Health Department said frees up Advanced Life Support ambulances for emergencies.

The health department said the agreement also allows more flexibility during large special events with fire-based ambulance and outside ambulance resources if they are needed.
