Identity of man swept out at Monastery Beach released
UPDATE 6/10/2019 12:00 p.m. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office says the man who died after being swept out by waves Saturday at Monastery Beach is 33-year-old Sridhar Ekambaram from San Jose.
Witnesses say he went into the water to save his son from the waves..
His son was rescued, but his condition has not been released.
Ekambaram’s body was recovered by the Sheriff”s Office Dive Team Sunday morning.
UPDATE 6/9/2019 3:17 p.m. The body of a man that went missing off Monastery Beach in Carmel has been recovered.
The body was found by the Monterey County Sheriff Office Dive Team, Sunday morning, near the north end of Monastery Beach.
Officials have not released the condition of the man’s son, who was rescued Saturday.
UPDATE 6/9/2019 12:20 p.m. The Coast Guard has called off the search for a man who went missing in the water at Monastery Beach in Carmel.
At around 2:15 Saturday afternoon, his young son went into the water and the father went in after him, but they were swept away by waves.
The boy was recovered, but the search continued until sunset Saturday night for the father. Crews went out to continue the search at first light Sunday, but say it was unsuccessful. It is suspended unless they get new information about his location.
UPDATED 6/8/19 10:50 p.m.
One person is missing at Monastery Beach in Carmel after being swept away by waves.
According to a spokesperson for the San Francisco Coast Guard, a young boy wandered into the water and his father went after him this afternoon but both were swept away.
Lifeguards were able to recover the boy but the father is still missing.
The coast guard suspended the search Saturday night at sunset but plans to resume the search at sunrise Sunday.

A search is underway after a report of a young person in the water at Monastery Beach in Carmel.
Several crews are at the scene Saturday evening, including the Coast Guard and Monterey Fire.
