Pedestrian hit and killed in Castroville crash

A Castroville man has died after he was hit by a car while crossing the road.

It happened just after 12:30 Saturday morning on State Route 183 north of Cooper Road.

A 19-year-old woman from Castroville was driving northbound on the 183 when the pedestrian, a 63-year-old man, tried to cross the street.

The driver saw the pedestrian and tried to stop, but was not able to do it in time. The pedestrian was hit and pronounced dead at the scene.

CHP says they do not think drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, and the driver was not arrested.
