Road rage fist fight captured on camera on Highway 101
A road rage brawl on Highway 101 was caught on camera on Easter Sunday.
The fight broke out in the midst of stand still traffic. The video taken by a driver in a nearby vehicle shows two men in an all-out fist fight.
The California Highway Patrol reported that it happened in San Martin, which is located just south of Morgan Hill.
Witnesses say the fight lasted for about 45 seconds and then both drivers got back in their cars.
This may be more extreme than most people have seen, but drivers say sitting in rush hour traffic can lead to different kinds of road rage.
“It’s super easy to get volatile really, really quick,” Jacob Roles said.
“I’ve seen people cut people off I’ve seen people tailgating. I’ve been tailgated because I’m not safe to turn and they’ll stay on me,” Rebecca Serrano said.
The only drivers KION spoke with who weren’t surprised to see the video were truck drivers who see all kinds of things while traveling the country.
“You’ve got a lot more people weaving in and out and a lot more traffic,” Robert Van Dyke said.
“I think it all comes back to someone being distracted when driving,” Roles said. “Doing something that someone else don’t like.”
The CHP says the best thing you can do is stay calm and don’t act erratically and, if possible, stay away from drivers behaving badly.
“To me misery lacks company. So if you’re going to entertain that, they’re going to keep going. And it is dangerous if you flip them off, because you don’t know what they’re going to do,” Serrano said.
According to the CHP, when officers got to the scene after the fight was reported, the men involved were already gone.
