PG gets break from rain in time for Parade of Lights

Residents in Pacific Grove were hoping for a little break in the rain for their annual Parade of Lights in downtown.

And they got that just in time for the parade to commence and finish.

“The rain stopped. We brought our umbrellas, we’re prepared, but we’ve got a break and this is awesome,” said Patrick Bishop, a Pacific Grove resident.

About 41 groups came out for the Parade of Lights on Lighthouse Avenue, including Monterey Bay Charter School parents and kids who did their best putting their float together despite the rain and wind.

“We were all hanging and cutting and putting all the pieces together,” said Germaine. “It was impossible, but we had to storm it through to make it happen tonight.”

Some bands slated to perform during the parade canceled because of the weather. Germaine almost did too.

“We were very concerned,” she said. “We were going to wait until the last minute to maybe even call it to like cancel it.”

Some made use of the rainy weather to get creative like making jellyfish out of umbrellas. Other floats also did their best to keep the water out and everything in place.

“We bolted everything down to the trailer, so it is windproof, waterproof, everything-proof,” said Germaine.

And for the rest who were just watching, it was all a matter of bringing the right gear.

“You know, we just brought an umbrella and stayed warm and we’re good. Good to go,” said Brian Bingham, a Pacific Grove resident.

“Enough to bring our umbrellas and wear our raincoats, but we got lucky,” said Bishop.
