Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office after incident: “You can’t outrun us or karma”
A Santa Cruz deputy’s crash turned into a strange case of karma.
One of the office’s deputies was heading south on Highway 9 when a red truck, traveling the opposite direction, suddenly turned in front of him onto El Solyo Heights.
Officials say that deputy was unable to avoid a crash and hit the truck, causing significant damage to the patrol car. No one was injured, however the case quickly changed.
Deputies discovered CHP was investigating the driver of the red truck, Jesse Schrock, for a vehicle theft that happened the day before. The car that was reported stolen was eventually found on Bear Creek Canyon, but a guitar was missing from the vehicle.
As it turned out, that guitar was found inside the red truck, linking Schrock to the vehicle theft and officials found the red truck was also stolen by Schrock.
The Sheriff’s Office’s word of advice: “You can’t outrun us or karma.”
