Police looking for suspect in arson at Watsonville Planned Parenthood
Watsonville Police with other agencies are looking for a suspect who intentionally set fire to a Planned Parenthood building on South Green Valley Road.
It happened around 4 a.m. on July 20 and the fire burned until around 7 a.m when it was reported.
Surveillance video shows the suspect starting the fire.
Watsonville firefighters extinguished the fire within minutes, but it still caused a moderate amount of damage.
Planned Parenthood Director of Public Affairs, Guadalupe Rodriguez, said the patients who depend on this clinic form a tight community.
“We have a very connected, um, community space. And so, there has been some concern. But, as. mentioned it hasn’t, thankfully, deterred individuals from coming and receiving the healthcare services that they need,” said Rodriguez.
Watsonville Police detectives are working with Cal Fire arson investigators, ATF agents, the FBI and U.S. Marshalls to find the suspect.
“As of yet, we have not heard anything about the identification of the individual that started the fire,” confirmed Rodriguez.
The FBI is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
The video does not show the suspect’s face, but police are hoping that someone will recognize the arsonist based on physical description, clothes and mannerisms.
