Glorya Jean Tate Park Groundbreaking in Marina

The city of Marina held a Groundbreaking ceremony on Friday afternoon for Phase 2 of improvements at Glorya Jean Tate Park! The new phase means that work is beginning on a new basketball court, 2 pickleball courts, an exercise area, and new Horseshoe/Cornhole courts. Other new features include a divided dog park and infrastructure improvements like new entrances and parking spaces.
Marina Mayor, Bruce Delgado, spoke at the event and says that he is most looking forward to new playground equipment, like the new skywalk, a 30 foot tall play structure with 2 towers to walk between and a slide on each, one 23 feet long and the other 19 feet.
The mayor also talked costs of the project, saying that the pricetag for these improvements is about 8 million dollars, Phase 2 expected to take less than a year to complete, hoping to open up in January, 2026.
Delgado emphasizing that this is the people's tax dollars at work, saying that the money for the project is mostly coming from new taxes that were voted on back in 2019 that raised sales taxes and added a cannabis tax to the city. The project also helping to connect the 2 sides of the city, with property fees from Fort Ord and Marina Station being used to create a place for families on both sides.
