Car week comes to a close at Concours d’Elegance

Another year of Monterey Car Week is in the books. The event to top it all off, the Concours d’Elegance, hosted nearly 200 classic cars right on the Pebble Beach’s 18th Hole.

Many have been coming to the event for years. For Carmel resident, Debbie Burlingham, it has yet to disappoint.

“We have different events in Carmel, and Pebble Beach, and that. But, this is a one of a kind thing,” said Burlingham.

Car owners at Sunday’s event competed for the best in show title. John White, owner of a 1953 Buick Skylark Convertible, celebrated his 12th year at Pebble Beach.

“We get lots of compliments on it, and everyone thinks it’s beautiful. And, it really is,” said White.

White’s Buick was a member of Eisenhower Class, a group of nine top flight American convertible from the years that President Dwight Eisenhower was in the White House.

White shared his excitement to be back for the week. “Each time it’s like the first time. We always wanna be a part of it,” said White.

White came to the Monterey Peninsula from Sacramento, but this week car owners visited the central coast from around the world.

“People are coming from Australia. They’re coming from San Francisco. I mean, they’re coming from all over the country. And they’re coming here, and it makes it exciting for the towns. Exciting for the different locations,” said Burlingham.

The event wrapped with the announcement of the winning car; a 1937 Alfa Romeo.

Nearly 70 years since the first concours, the crowds keep coming.
