Motorcyclists riding for a good cause

Today a special group of riders made their way to Salinas, in order raise money for disabled veterans and their families.

It’s the 9th annual Patriot Tour. This year’s goal is to raise 300,000 dollars.

“Leading the pack down the highway, it means something. It’s… it’s… you feel the pride in what we’re
doing.” That’s just some of the excitement Matt Koch shared after leading the pack from San Francisco to Salinas Tuesday morning.

Bikers ride through the 48 continental states on this tour, which lasts 110 days. Bikers come and go along the way, with 150,000 riders supporting this year’s ride. And with each leg of the tour, one biker is chosen to bear the American flag. “The flag is a symbol of our country and it stands for a lot of things…
patriotism, a lot of men and women have given their lives to protect that flag,” says Fin.

The flag will travel nearly 15,000 miles by the end of the tour. Fin will take it to Santa Maria tomorrow to pass it on. The purpose of this event is to raise money for disabled veterans and their families.

Koch says, “They come home and they’re having a, kinda having a hard time financially. That’s mostly, this is just to help them get back on their feet, get their household in order, maybe it’s groceries, maybe it’s Christmas presents, maybe it’s their mortgage.”

You can donate and find out more about the tour on their website.
