Police investigate an attempted murder in Santa Cruz

One man is in critical condition after a shooting in Santa Cruz, early Saturday morning. The Santa Cruz Police Department says they responded to the 600 block of Riverside Avenue at approximately 1:04 a.m., for reports of multiple gunshots.

They found the victim with “an undetermined number of gunshot wounds.” He is a 26-year-old Santa Cruz resident. Police believe the attempted murder is gang motivated.

The victim is in critical condition, but the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. He was treated by the Santa Cruz Fire Department and American Medical Response, and was later flown to a Bay Area Trauma Center.

Detectives are searching the neighborhood for video surveillance.
