New Boys & Girls Club to open in Scotts Valley

UPDATE: November 30th, 2017 6:20pm

A new Boys and Girls Club is opening up in Scotts Valley.

The project was started years ago by a Scotts Valley couple and is expected to open in Spring of 2018.

The property was bought by Linda and Joe Aliberti who had the vision of turning the building into an after school program for youth in the area. They are now teaming up with the Boys and Girls Club in Santa Cruz County to make that vision a reality.

The new club is centrally located at 5060 Scotts Valley Drive. Walking distance from Scotts Valley Middle School, High School and Vine Hill Elementary. There will also be volunteers or staff members to help walk kids from the schools to the after school building, “One of our programs that we provide is called the walking bus. We actually put staff and volunteers at each of the schools so that the children are safely escorted,” says executive director Bob Langseth.

The Boys and Girls Club will also offer tutoring, games, art and outdoor activities for students after school. Langseth says kids will “have access to computers, fantastic creative arts programs, athletics. Every day the children that come through here get all of the basics that will help them become successful students and citizens.”

Scotts valley resident Lynn Swartz says she is excited about this opportunity for families and kids, “I think it’s a fabulous idea for kids of all ages to have a place to go after school where they’re entertained.”

Tutor, Jason Dane says he supports the idea too, “Our students don’t have enough to do sometimes after school, they need activities. This is something that’s going to provide them tutoring and sports.”

A year round membership for kids ages 6 to 18 is $75. The goal of this program is to give kids a safe space between school and home where they can focus on homework, get the help they need and enjoy different activities.
