MCSO arrest attempted homicide suspect during SWAT service

UPDATE: 10/20/2017 12:15 p.m. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office arrested an attempted homicide suspect during an early morning SWAT service Friday.

According to MCSO, SWAT members and investigators served a search warrant at a home on Wood Street in Castroville. Authorities were looking for evidence and a possible gunman related to a shooting on October 12. A man had been shot in the head around 5:45 p.m. last week but is expected to survive.

Investigators located Juan Cruz at the home on Wood Street and took him into custody. The Sheriff’s Office said Cruz may be connected to Norteno street gang. He faces two attempted murder charges with gang enhancements.

A second person was arrested for unrelated charges.

A man was shot, but is expected to survive.

There is no suspect information at this time.
