Sobriety checkpoints scheduled for Labor Day weekend
This Labor Day weekend, the King City Area and Santa Cruz area of the California Highway Patrol will be conducting Sobriety/ Driver License Checkpoints somewhere within the unincorporated Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties.
Known enforcement will take place on Friday and Saturday.
“All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by intoxicated or unlicensed drivers,” said Lieutenant George Aviña, King City Area Commander.
CHP officials say a sobriety/driver license checkpoint is a proven effective tool for reducing injuries and is designed to augment existing patrol operations. “By publicizing our efforts we believe that we can deter motorists from drinking and driving and/or driving unlicensed,” Lieutenant Aviña added.
Grant funding for this program was provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through National Highway Safety Administration.
