City of Salinas will hold special meeting Thursday in response to speeders

A special meeting to address “traffic calming” solutions will be held at Salinas City Hall beginning at 6:00 PM Thursday night. A presentation will be given specific to Riker Street & Capistrano Drive. Council member Steve McShane said people in Salinas are sick of drivers going way too fast, breaking the law, and putting the general public at risk, which is why Thursday night the City will discuss some creative solutions. “It’s not always just speed bumps. We can look at flashing speed signs, more signage, there’s lots of things that can be done to adjust the behavior of motorist as they go through a neighborhood or even just town,” said McShane. The results of traffic studies involving Riker Street show around 85% of drivers go at least ten miles per hour over the speed limit.
