Suspect in Los Banos officer-involved shooting dies

UPDATE 7/31/2017 4:25 p.m. The suspect involved in this morning’s officer-involved shooting has died, the Merced County Sheriff’s Office’s said.

PREVIOUS STORY:

On July 31, 2017 at approximately 6:18 a.m., the Los Banos Police Department responded to an apartment in the 2100 Block of Gilbert Gonzalez Jr. Drive, regarding a 9-1-1 call of a male who was breaking into an apartment.

Two Officers arrived and were involved in a struggle with the male suspect inside of the apartment. During the struggle, a shooting occurred where both Officers and the suspect were shot.

The suspect and the injured Officers have been air lifted to Modesto area hospitals, and are being treated for their injuries.

As this is an ongoing investigation, no further information is available at this time. The Police Department will release more information later in the day as it becomes available.
