7/17/2017 10:00 p.m. A tragic fall Monday at Davenport Beach in Santa Cruz County ends with a woman’s death.

The 20 year old woman died after falling off a cliff 100 feet down.

The woman was from San Jose and was visiting Davenport with friends. First responders tried to save her but she was too badly hurt.

Witness Raymond Oyos was there moments after the fall.

“There’s some guy running down the cliff he starts screaming and screaming ‘she fell, she fell,’ Oyos said.

Oyos and his friends went closer where others were already trying to help.

“They took all of their clothes off and tried swimming it,” Oyos said. “They climbed the big rock and everything but nothing.”

Raymond says after a while, rescue helicopters arrived.

“About 10 minutes after the helicopters came, they sent someone down and they came back with the person in it.”

The Santa Cruz County Sheriffs Office says the cliff was unstable, making it even harder to reach the woman.

“They said they scaled down there to where she was,” Oyos said. “Rocks falling on them and everything, they were trying to help her, like, dig and dig so the water wouldn’t cave in on her and down there they’re all scraped up with scratches and bleeding.”

Sheriff’s officials say the woman was talking with rescuers but eventually died in the helicopter.

“We were chilling just having fun and then we see that and our moods just change,” Oyos said.

We don’t know the woman’s name yet as officials are still notifying her family.
