King City man accused of seeking sex with 16-year-old girl

A King City man is accused of seeking a romantic relationship with a 16-year-old girl using Facebook Messenger over the past two years.

King City Police said an investigation into Miguel Mendez aka Luis Mendez, 29, started in March. Investigators said Mendez had been in contact with the girl since she was 14-year-old and continued until she agreed to be his girlfriend.

The relationship was soon ended, but investigators explained Mendez started stalking and harassing the girl, telling her she was being watched. Mendez also told the girl, who was actually an officer posing as the teen, he wanted her to send him nude pictures and to meet him in person with the intent of being intimate.

Mendez was arrested during a sting operation at King City Skate Park early Monday morning. He was taken to the Monterey County Jail and booked on a charge of contact with a minor to commit lewd/sexual act.
