Santa Cruz County’s Gang Task Force arrest armed man with heroin

Friday, agents with the Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime Team’s Gang Task Force arrested 30-year-old Francisco Garcia for carrying a loaded gun, and possession of a controlled substance.

Agents were patrolling the downtown area near Front Street and Spruce Street in Santa Cruz when they spotted a car with its tail lights blacked out and windows tinted.

While agents spoke to Garcia they noticed a piece of plastic hidden under the dash. As agents investigated the plastic they determined it contained about 12 grams of Heroin.

Agents continued to search the car and found a loaded revolver with its serial number removed hidden under the dash. Three more packages of Heroin were found under the dash for a total weight of 27.5 grams.

Garcia was arrested for possession of a controlled substance while armed, possession of a controlled substance for sales, transportation of controlled substance and carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle.

Agents will have the revolver analyzed to determine if it had been used in a crime.
