DeLoreans land in Santa Cruz

Start your engines, a bunch of DeLorean sports cars landed in Santa Cruz on Sunday. The cars were setup as part of the DeLorean World Tour.

“It doesn’t matter if they are world class, I love them,” said Gloria Cohen, as she looked at the exhibit. “These doors would be great for me. I can barely get in and out of anything anymore I am so old,” added Cohen.

Wolfgang Hank and his two friends came up with the idea for the tour in 2015.

“We make a trip around the world in our three Deloreans,” said Hank.

The tour began last September in Eastern Europe. The group then made their way through the Middle East down through Thailand; the cars were then shipped to Australia and again to Canada.

Now the friends are making their way through the United States, but why exactly?

“Why?” said Hank. “That is a good question. We do it because we can do it. That was really the only reason in the beginning and then the next reason was because no one stopped us early enough”

The cars were made famous after the Doc Brown turned one into a time machine in the film, “Back to the Future.” But, for Hank the tour is about more than just the movie. It is about bringing together the DeLorean community.

“Yesterday we meet a guy in San Francisco,” said Hank. “He has owned his car from 1981 and we can bring him together with other DeLorean owners.”

Nevertheless, the cars are so well maintained that Cohen thinks she might just jump in and power on the flux capacitor.

“It looks like it still could take you to the future,” said Cohen. “Just jump in and you are in the future.”
