Son abused dad, will spend 9 years in state prison

A Salinas man was sentenced to nine years in state prison for abusing his dad.

According to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office, Steve Ferguson, 46, is guilty of elder abuse, attempted murder, and assault with a deadly weapon. He is guilty of holding a knife to his father’s throat, and holding a fire place poker to his chest.

At one point, Ferguson even hit his father over the head with a hatchet. The then 69-year-old victim had to have nine staples in his head. The father was released to the care of his other son that same evening.
