Man shot in the chest in Salinas Thursday night

The Salinas Police Department is investigating a shooting Thursday night that sent a man to the hospital.

The shooting happened before 9 p.m., on the 1300 block of Wiren Street.

Officers responded to the scene but did not find a victim. Police said while officers were canvassing the area, they received a call that a victim of a shooting had arrived at a local hospital.

Police said the 23-year-old Hispanic man suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. He is expected to be okay.

There is no suspect information at this time but the shooting appears to be gang-related, police said.
