Teen accused of murdering 8-year-old Maddy Middleton appears in court
The Santa Cruz teenager accused of murdering 8-year-old Maddy Middleton made an appearance in Santa Cruz County Superior Court Thursday morning.
The appearance was to confirm Adrian Gonzalez’s preliminary hearing scheduled for February 29, but that ended up getting canceled.
The court said his next appearance will be his arraignment on June 14, where the charges filed against him may be changed.
Gonzalez is accused of kidnapping, tying up, raping and killing Maddy Middleton in July of 2015. Gonzalez and Maddy were neighbors at the Tannery Arts Center in Santa Cruz. Investigators found Maddy’s body inside a recycling bin at the Tannery.
