Man charged in robbing Watsonville Fire Department

A man is behind bars Tuesday, after robbing the Watsonville Fire Department. It happened Monday night at Watsonville Fire Department Station 1 while firefighters were out on a medical call.

Upon arrival back to the station, the firefighters saw a suspicious person walking away from the station, tampering with an AT&T utility box. Firefighters passed on a description of that person to Watsonville Police.

Police later found that person, Francisco Gonzalez, wearing items stolen from the station, including utility overalls, gloves and shoes. All stolen items were recovered and returned to the fire station.

Gonzalez was arrested and charged with burglary. He was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail.
