HBO sets up trailers to film series in Monterey

“If people keep their eyes open they’ll see some of our cast out and about,” said “Big Little Lies” executive producer Greg Fienberg.

The trailers have already been planted on Fisherman’s Wharf, one of a few locations on the peninsula serving as the backdrop for the limited HBO series Big Little Lies.

“Just felt like Monterey had enough of a feel of Sydney, the area of Sydney that the book was set,” said Feinberg.

Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman are starring in the darkly comedic drama about three mothers whose perfect lives unravel, eventually leading to murder.

“Entertaining, fantastic, very relatable show,” said Feibberg. “We’re excited to be making it. We’re extremely excited to be coming up to Monterey.”

Crews told us the series will be filmed Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach and Carmel Highlands.

“For us the excitement, here is a good chance for economic impact for our local communities when production comes in,” said Karen Nordstrand with the Monterey County Film Commission.

Nordstrand said hotels, restaurants and locations will see a monetary boost from
housing and feeding “Big Little Lies” crew of about 150 people.

“They could be spending from $50,000 and up a day,” said Nordstrand. “So it means big money, big impact for our county.”

She also believes the show will help Monterey catch the eye of more tourists and productions down the line.

“With somebody like Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon all participating in this shoot, there’s always a lot of attention to those high-end celebrities.”

Crews will be shooting in Monterey for about a week.

Producers told us the series is set to air sometime in 2017.
