Felony arrest leads deputies to lots of stolen items

Six burglary victims across the Monterey Peninsula have some of their stuff back thanks to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Department.

Following a car chase and arrest of Jeffrey Rutt, 23, on January 12, deputies searched Rutt’s home on the 900 block of Syida Street in Pacific Grove.

Deputies found laptop computers, iPads, cameras, medications and a survey transit, all now returned to their rightful owners. The value of the returned stolen property is estimated to be about $5,250.

The thefts happened between October and December of 2015, from locked and unlocked cars.

The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing sixteen felony and seven misdemeanor charges related to burglary, theft, possession of stolen property, narcotics possession, dangerous fireworks possession and violation of probation.

Rutt is at the Monterey County Jail on $20,000 bail.
