UPDATE: Monday’s shooting victim on Garner Avenue died from injuries

UPDATE 10/21/15 12:25 PM: The Salinas Police Department said Wednesday the victim of Monday’s shooting on Garner Ave. died of his injuries in the hospital.

This marks the 33rd homicide in Salinas this year.

Police said Ernesto Ruiz Martinez, 35, was on his bike when he was shot multiple times just after 3:30 p.m. Monday.

Police said two Hispanic males were chasing him in a dark-colored, two-door vehicle, eventually opening fire.

Martinez was taken to Natividad Medical Center, where he later died.

There is no suspect information at this time. Anyone with information is asked to call 831-758-7226 or 1-800-78-CRIME to remain anonymous.
