Beach advisory issued for 5 local beaches
The Monterey County Health Department issued a beach advisory for the following beaches.
Monterey State Beach
Monterey Municipal Beach
San Carlos Beach
Lovers Point
Spanish Bay
The department said high indicator bacteria was found in samples taken Monday, Jan. 20.
The beaches will remain under the advisory until samples indicate that indicator bacteria are at a safe level for recreational water contact according to state guidelines.
The department recommends that you do not swim in or have contact with storm drain water as bacteria viruses or chemicals may contaminate the water and contact may cause illness.
