Random person tries to enter Salinas home

The Salinas Police Department responded to a call of a suspicious person who knocked on the door of a Salinas home saying he was there to conduct a test.

On Tuesday a Hispanic male in his late 40s, approximately 6 feet tall, thin, with acne complexion, wearing a black leather jacket and dark color jeans knocked on a door of a home in the North Salinas area, said police.

They say he called the female resident by name and requested she let him inside saying he was there to test the water.

The woman told police he had no identifying information. The woman did not open the door and continued to question him. Police say she felt very uneasy because the man knew her name.

The woman also told police that at one point the man told her she was smart on not opening the door to a stranger, but said he was fine.

The man had left by the time police arrived. Officers searched the area but did not find anyone matching the description.

The Salinas Police Department says this is a good reminder to everyone to follow basic safety rules, one being not to open the door to strangers. They say having a peep hole in your door is a good idea.

Officers say if you see something suspicious call police and they will try to respond as quickly as possible.
