Salinas man sentenced to 19 years in home invasion rape

A Salinas man who forced his way into a woman’s home and sexually assaulted her has been sentenced to 19 years in prison.

Humberto Rodas, 25, pleaded guilty to two counts of forcible rape, one count of forcible oral copulation and felony residential burglary, Monterey County prosecutors said.

In August 2013, Rodas forced his way into the victim’s home and hit her in the face, knocking her to the ground. He sexually assault her, putting a blanket over her mouth to muffle her screams.

Eventually, she was able to break free from Roda’s hold and ran to the bathroom to call for help.

Rodas fled on foot, but was later detained, identified and arrested.

Rodas will have to register as a sex offender for life when he is released from prison.
