Monterey County deputies make arrest in assault outside Salinas

Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a homeless man Tuesday in connection with an apparent assault just outside the city of Salinas.

Deputies were called to the 500 block of El Camino Real just after 5 p.m. Tuesday for reports of a battery. Upon arrival, deputies found a man unconscious after apparently having been hit in the face by Ricardo Recino.

Deputies set up a perimeter and eventually found Recino. An employee of a nearby business told deputies they’d witnessed Recino striking the other man in the face. The victim fell down, hitting his head on the ground and getting knocking unconscious. He was taken to a Bay Area hospital for treatment.

Recino, 48, was taken into custody and booked into Monterey County Jail.
