Volunteers clean up 815 pounds of trash from North Coast beaches

Save Our Shores volunteers cleaned up 815 pounds of trash from North Coast beaches Sunday.

The organization held its third and final North Coast Cleanup Day of the summer season on Aug. 24, with 35 volunteers helping to tackle five beaches.

The North Coast Cleanup Day summer program was created to restore the beauty of Davenport Main, Panther, Bonny Doon, 4 Mile and Shark Tooth beaches—all of which are consistently trashed by parties, camping and heavy foot traffic.

During the first cleanup on June 22, 36 volunteers removed 421 pounds of trash and debris from the five sites. On the second cleanup on July 27, 12 volunteers collected 694 pounds.

Panther Beach was the dirtiest site on Aug. 24, with 375 pounds of waste, including four cases of unopened beer. Davenport Main Beach was the second dirtiest site with 292 pounds of waste.
