SPCA: Dog rescued from Greenfield hoarding home has puppies

One of the dogs rescued from a filthy home in Greenfield last week has given birth to four puppies, the SPCA for Monterey County said.

The SPCA rescued 45 cats, 31 kittens and seven dogs from a dirty, cockroach infested house on Apple Avenue on July 23.

The Greenfield Police Department, Adult Protective Services, Child Protective Services and Monterey County Department of Health were also involved in the case and the house was declared uninhabitable.

The animals were matted, underweight, stained with urine and feces and severely infested with fleas. Many were suffering from ear parasites and upper respiratory infections, and many had been confined to small cages.

The animals had been so badly neglected that after a full examination by veterinarians, 45 of the animals had to be humanely euthanized.

Tuesday night, one of the dogs gave birth to four puppies.

The owner surrendered the pets to the SPCA, which means the agency will soon be able to start adopting out the healthiest pets. SPCA Humane Investigations officers plan to submit the case to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office this week for consideration of criminal charges.
