Watsonville Man Hands Over Bag of Meth, Gets Arrested

On Thursday, Watsonville Police Department Sgt. Eric Mantalbo stopped a vehicle for traffic violations. Inside was Efrain Guido Alanis.

Another officer, Sergio Banuelos, arrived on scene to assist.

While Banuelos was talking with the suspect, Alanis handed over a bag containing 209 grams of methamphetamine. The street value of this amount of drugs is around $5,000.

Banuelos arrested Alanis and the Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime Team Narcotics Task Force took over the investigation. Agents were given a search warrant for Alanis’ home in Las Lomas.

While executing the search warrant at his home on the 900 block of Lewis Road, .45 caliber firearm ammunition was located in Alanis’s bedroom. Records show Alanis is a convicted felon and is prohibited from owning a firearm or ammunition.

He is now being charged with trafficking and being a felon in possession of ammunition.

Alanis was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail and is awaiting arraignment on $250,000 bail.
