Board orders barbershops, hair salons, personal services to close in 30 California counties
(KION) The California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology released a response to Gov. Gavin Newsom's announcement that hair salons, barbershops and personal services will have to close indoor operations in counties on the State's watch list.
The board said because Section 7317 of the Business and Professions Code requires the services to be performed in a licensed establishment, the board will not allow businesses to offer any services and said they must close immediately.
The businesses are allowed to conduct outdoor operations under Newsom's order, but the board said services can only be provided within the licensed establishments.
There are 30 counties on the State's watch list, including Monterey and San Benito Counties. They are required to close indoor operations at fitness centers, worship services, offices for non-critical sectors, personal care services, malls, hair salons and barbershops.
Statewide, counties are required to close indoor operations at restaurants, wineries, movie theaters, zoos, museums and cardrooms. Bars are required to close all operations.
