PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. (KION) The City of Pacific Grove said it will be closing Lovers Point beaches, Lovers Point Park and Ocean View Boulevard parking turnouts over the Fourth of July weekend.

The City said it is closing the areas to prevent the spread of COVID-19 because it is expecting more people to visit the coast.

The closures will go into effect Friday and continue through Sunday.

The Western Lovers Point Beach, which can be accessed from the Recreational Trail, will be open for activities in the water that include surfing, swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking, scuba diving and snorkeling. Standing, sitting, laying or walking on the beach will not be allowed excepts for walking to enter the water.

The Recreational Trail and Ocean View Boulevard will stay open for walking, running and biking, but face coverings and practicing physical distancing will be required.
