Warmer Friday!
A strong ridge of high pressure will be maximized over the West Coast on Friday. Warm, dry conditions will prevail. The next weather system will slide down the coast this weekend. Ahead of it, winds shift back onshore and will begin to cool the area. However, we’ll see a rapid switch to offshore winds behind the system on Sunday. Initially, offshore winds will warm coastal cities, but then more seasonable weather can be expected for the early part of next week. Some warming expected by late in the week.
Friday: Sunny and warm during the early part of the day. Expect coastal highs in the 60s with 60s to low 70s inland. Winds strengthen onshore during the afternoon and evening and will bring cooler, foggier conditions to the coast.
Overnight: Low clouds and patchy fog. Expect coastal lows in the 40s with 30s to low 40s inland.
Saturday: Low clouds and fog along the coast in the morning, becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon. Cooler on the coast with highs in the 50s-60s with 60s to low 70s inland. Breezy at times, especially on the exposed coast and over the ridgetops.
***HIGH WIND WATCH*** The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Watch Saturday evening through late Sunday.
-The Diablo Range in Santa Clara County will see northeast winds around 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.
-The Santa Cruz Mountains will see northeast winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.
-Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
Extended: Winds shift offshore on Sunday and will be gusty at times. Coastal areas will warm initially and then a general cool down can be expected into early next week. The trend will then be more toward warmer temperatures by the end of the week. The next two weeks look pretty dry. There are some indications a weather system will arrive around Valentine’s Day, but it’s a bit far out still.
The outlook from the Climate Prediction Center for February 14th – 20th calls for the likelihood of BELOW normal temperatures and BELOW normal precipitation.
