Dozens spend day in cages to protest migrant detention centers
A group in Monterey hosted a very visible protest to what critics call the Trump administrations migrant detention policy, Saturday.
Nearly a dozen people spent their day locked in cages in different locations around the city.
Detention centers have been criticized for their treatment of children. A recent CBS report said the centers lack access to basic necessities like showers, hot meals, and changes of clothes.
“I try to get people to step into somebody else’s shoes, see what it feels like, and imagine if it was their child,” said Todd Sondgroth, the group’s head organizer.
The Trump administration said they requested 4.5 million dollars in emergency funding to deal with a humanitarian and security crisis at the border.
