Leon Panetta Lecture Series postponed until fall
SEASIDE, Calif. (KION) The Panetta Institute announced Tuesday that the remaining events in the "Leon Panetta Lecture Series" are postponed until the fall.
The lectures-- originally set for May 18, June 8 and June 29-- have been rescheduled with the same speakers for Aug. 31, Sept. 21 and Sept. 28.
“As the nation and state continue to confront the coronavirus threat, it is likely that the current limits on public events will be extended through May and possibly June. It is our hope that based on the Governor’s thoughts that the state can gradually reopen during the summer months, we believe it is prudent to go ahead and reschedule the remaining lecture series events to the Fall," Panetta said.
The theme for the series is "Decision 2020- A Republic If We Can Keep It."
On Aug. 31, former U.S. Secretary of State and Senator from Massachusetts John Kerry and former U.S. Secretary of Defense and retired Marine Corps General James Mattis will speak on the topic of "The Future of American Leadership in a Dangerous World."
On Sept. 21, former White House Director of Economic Policy Todd Buchholz, president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget and former U.S Treasurer Rosa Gumataotao Rios will speak on the topic of "An Economy on Borrowed Money."
On Sept. 28, former California Governor Jerry Grown, former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel, first female President of Ireland Mary Robinson and climate justice advocate David Wallace-Wells will speak on the topic of "A Planet on Borrowed Time."
The Panetta Institute said tickets issued for the original dates will be honored for the new dates and times. Anyone interested in buying tickets can call the Panetta Institute at 831-582-4200.
