Lingering Showers
The area of low pressure that pushed
rain into our region on Tuesday will slide by to our south on Wednesday. In the
meantime, a few showers will linger overnight. Proximity to the low will cause
instability on Wednesday and will likely lead to additional showers and perhaps
an isolated thunderstorm. This activity is more likely in the southern half of
our viewing area, but is possible throughout the region. High pressure will
briefly build in Thursday, brining warmer temperatures, but a cold storm system
from the north will chill us out into the weekend. This system will also have
some rain with it and potentially even some snow for the mountains.
Overnight: Partly
cloudy with isolated showers possible. Fog likely in valley bottoms. Lows
mainly in the 40s to low 50s.
Wednesday: Mostly clear early with patchy fog, then becoming partly
cloudy as cumulus clouds develop over the hills. Isolated to scattered showers
will develop over the hills and may drift over the valleys. In the south, this
activity will be more frequent with small hail and even lightning possible.
Highs in the 60s to around 70ºF.
Thursday: Valley fog in the morning,
then becoming mostly sunny with a few low clouds near the coast and thin, high
clouds passing through. Expect coastal highs in the 60s, but warmer reading
inland with upper 60s to mid 70s.
Extended: Onshore winds will become a bit more prevalent on Friday,
cooling coastal areas into the upper 50s to low 60s. Inland areas will cool as
well, but will remain in the mid 60s to low 70s. We will cool further on
Saturday as the cold storm system pushes in from the north. A few showers will
also be possible, but better rain chances come on Sunday. Snow levels will also
drop low enough that our mountains could see some accumulation! After a couple
of cold mornings, we’ll warm up a bit through Tuesday (Saint Patrick’s Day).
The outlook from the Climate Prediction Center for March 18th-24th calls for
the likelihood of BELOW temperatures and near normal precipitation.
