Weekend Changes

Another quiet day to kick off the weekend but unsettled weather is on the way with a return of the marine layer, increasing clouds and cooler temps. Next week will be a completely different weather story!! Enjoy today as we continue with sunny and mild conditions, but a deep trough in the Pacific northwest will dive farther south over the weekend. The system will bring a return of an onshore flow, breezy conditions with coastal clouds, fog and drizzle and partly cloudy for inland areas as well. Next week looks to stay unsettled with a rain threat and the cooler air sticking around. Get out those warm coats!

Hurricane Kristy Track as of Friday morning: Hurricane Kristy, now a powerful Category 5 storm in the eastern Pacific Ocean, has sustained winds reaching up to 160 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center. Located approximately 650 miles southwest of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula, Kristy is currently moving west at a steady 16 mph. The storm’s predicted path keeps it completely away from land, but dangerous swells are expected to reach the Baja, Mexico coast, bringing life-threatening surf and rip current conditions by the weekend.

Kristy will continue westward for the next 24 hours before gradually turning northwest. Favorable atmospheric conditions are supporting the storm’s current strength, though cooler waters and wind shear are expected to quickly weaken Kristy, potentially downgrading it to a post-tropical cyclone within 96 hours, according to the NHC.

AIR QUALITY: Good

Today: Mostly sunny skies and mild. Highs in the mid to upper 60s to mid 70s coastal and upper 70s to mid 80s inland and warmer in far southern valleys.

Overnight: Clear to partly cloudy with lows ranging mainly in the low 40s to mid 50s areawide.

Saturday: Increasing clouds with partly sunny skies at the coast and some clearing inland with sunshine. Highs will still be mild in the upper 60s to upper 70s and upper 70s to mid-80s for inland areas. Breezy up valleys late in the day. Patchy fog and coastal drizzle possible Saturday night.

Extended: Temperatures peak on Saturday with most areas 4-8ºF above normal. A deep trough digging in from the north, will be packed with cold air and will come in with a bluster. In fact, northwest winds may be gusty starting Sunday and lasting into mid-week as the storm track becomes more active. Cannot rule out a chance of light showers with an additional chance later in the week. The weather next week will be much different than this one!
