At least one person is dead in crash on Highway 101 in Morgan Hill, officers say

MORGAN HILL, Calif. (KION-TV)- The California Highway Patrol confirms that a deadly crash in Morgan Hill around 9:17 p.m. on Tuesday night has left one person dead.

The crash happened on Northbound Highway 101 at Cochrane Road. A spokesperson with the California Highway Patrol confirmed that a 19-year-old San Jose woman was riding a Yamaha motorcycle northbound on Highway 101.

Officers said that multiple cars including a Kia Forte, Dodge Ram and a Ford Escape were all in traffic due to a big rig truck that overturned on the highway ahead.

Investigators said the motorcyclist caused the motorcycle crash into the Kia Forte. The motorcyclist also crashed into the Dodge Ram and was ejected from her motorcycle.

The woman came into rest underneath the Dodge Ram. The motorcycle propelled in a easterly direction and the motorcycle crashed into a Ford Escape per CHP.

Officers said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene while the drivers of each vehicle sustained no injuries.

The spokesperson said it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this crash.
