Your forecast for Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Benito, and southern Santa Clara Counties…
Temperatures head upward for Tuesday as a strong ridge of high pressure nudges in from the west. With onshore flow persisting, coastal areas will be slightly warm, but fairly seasonable. Inland areas will see highs of 5-15ºF above normal, however! A heat advisory is in place for the interior valleys and mountains during the day (see the full text of the alert below). The ridge will nudge back to the west allowing for a cut-off low sitting to our south to migrate north and eventually get picked back up in the upper level flow. The marine layer will deepen again with a couple of “June Gloom” days expected on the coast Wed/Thu. Temps will even out this weekend as we sit somewhat between influential weather systems, but the northwest wind will be a-blowin’!
AIR QUALITY: Good to Moderate
Overnight: Low clouds for the coast and inland valleys with patchy fog. Lows in the low to mid 50s.
Tuesday: A few morning low clouds and fog, then mostly sunny with a few high clouds passing through. Warmer, with coastal highs from 64ºF to 74ºF and from 78ºF to 102ºF inland. Breezy up-valley winds in the afternoon and evening.
**HEAT ADVISORY**
…for the Gabilan Range, Cholame Hills, and southeastern valleys of Monterey County, the mountains and southern valleys of San Benito County, and the Santa Clara Valley & Diablo Range in Santa Clara County in effect from 11AM Tuesday until 8PM Tuesday.
*Maximum temperatures expected to reach the mid to upper 90s.
*Those sensitive to heat, such as the homeless, elderly, children, and pets will be at risk for heat-related illnesses.
Those without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration will be at the greatest risk.
Drink plenty of fluids, stay cool, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Wednesday: A return of low cloud to the coast where they will remain intact for most coastal cities throughout the day. Patchy fog. Cooler, with coastal highs in the upper 50s to upper 60s and upper 60s to upper 80s inland. Breezy west-southwesterly onshore and up-valley winds.
Extended: After another cloudy day on the coast Thursday, northwest flow will strengthen into Friday and Saturday. Santa Cruz will clear out and temps will ease back upward a bit into the weekend. We should be pretty close to normal through Father’s Day.
