Dry and mild on Saturday, changes for Sunday
High pressure will continue to dominate our weather, with above normal temperatures into Saturday. Highs will remain in the 60s and low 70s.
The weather pattern will shift dramatically late Saturday and Sunday, when a powerful trough of low pressure will drop south over the Western U.S.
The Central Coast will be on the dry side of the trough, although a few isolated showers may be possible on Sunday as the associated cold front passes through. The bigger impacts will be gusty winds and chilly temperatures. Morning lows on Monday -- and especially Tuesday -- will be very frosty!! Some temperatures recovery expected through mid-week.

Where: The North Bay Mountains, Santa Cruz Mountains, Santa Lucia Mountains, Salinas Valley, Santa Clara Valley, and Pacific and Bay coastlines.
What: Winds are forecast to range from 15 to 30 mph. Wind gusts will mostly span 30 to 45 mph in most areas; however, the strongest wind gusts are forecast to be along the Pacific coastline with gusts ranging from 40 to 50 mph.
Peak gusts are expected late Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening. Even after the watch expires, winds are expected to be breezy through Monday.

What: For the Small Craft Advisory, northwest winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 30 kt and seas 11 to 13 feet at 13 seconds expected.
What: For the Storm Watch, northwest winds 30 to 40 kt with gusts up to 50 kt and seas 10 to 15 feet at 13 seconds possible.
Where: Coastal Waters from Pigeon Point to Point Pinos, out to 10 nm.
When: For the Small Craft Advisory, from 9 PM Saturday to 3 AM PST Sunday.
When: For the Storm Watch, from late Saturday night through Sunday evening.
Impacts: Very strong winds will cause hazardous seas which could capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility.
Precautionary/Preparedness Actions: Mariners should prepare to remain in port, alter course, and/or secure the vessel for severe conditions before conditions deteriorate.
GALE WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 3 AM TO 9 PM PST SUNDAY
What: Northwest winds 20-30 kt with gusts kup to 45 kt, and seas 7-12 feet at 13 seconds. Where: Monterey Bay Impacts: Strong winds will cause hazardous seas which could capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility. Precautionary/Preparedness Actions: Mariners should alter plans to avoid these hazardous conditions. Remain in port, seek safe harbor, alter course, and/or secure the vessel for severe conditions.
Friday night: Partly cloudy with a few, thin high clouds and patchy low
clouds and fog around the coast and adjacent valleys. Expect coastal lows in
the low to mid 40s with 30s to low 40s inland. Breezy northerly winds over the
ridgetops at times.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, but a bit cooler in the north and on the coast
with highs mainly in the 60s. Southern inland areas will likely remain in the
70s.
Extended: A cold front will pass on Sunday with chilly, windy conditions
behind it. An isolated rain shower or two will be possible, but rain will not
be widespread. Highs will drop into the 50s for most areas Sunday through Wednesday
and lows will be very chilly Monday through Wednesday mornings. Plan for frost,
even up to coastal cities!. Appreciable rainfall looks to be at least two weeks
out.
The outlook from the Climate Prediction Center for February 7th – 13th calls
for the likelihood of BELOW normal temperatures and BELOW
normal precipitation.
